CONSUMER LIFESTYLE vs PRODUCTIVE LIFESTYLE

Onoirah,

It is a privilege to come your way again. I greeted you in Ishan language of Edo State, Nigeria, this means, “My People.” I am glad that we have the opportunity of seeing into the future through our positive outlook to situations and event. I also use this medium to sympathize with all those who lost their livelihood to different fire outbreak in the last one week. May the Lord grant you a speedy free start.

Being a Nigerian, I have grown up to know that Nigerians consume a lot. New brand berth in the country annually and in some few years, they are already making profit that exceeds that of their homeland. Unfortunately, before their arrival, Nigerians in the same line of business are not reckoned with or such business goes into extinction. Truthfully, how do we evaluate the lifestyle of Nigerians?

A consumer nation is a greedy and self-centered nation. Such nations consume all that come their way. Since the advent of the cellphones into the Nigerian market; every company that produces phones have made fortune out of our country. It has been discovered also that a lot of the Nigeria subsidiaries are franchise of companies that exist in other parts of the world invited by wealthy Nigerians so as to make gains. This consuming attitude would have led to the development of different economic policies.

A productive nation is a nation that known to particular about giving something back to the world. There are countries that are known to producing certain items, for example France is renowned for wines; Turkey for clothing; Dubai as a tourist destination. The rate at which a country produces is a function of her innovation and thoughtfulness. There are many great resources around us in Nigeria largely underutilized.

The challenge is that we should put on our creative caps. For us in the developing countries, we know that there is no electricity; the enabling environment is not there; government policies are not helpful but we still have a role to play in who we eventually become in life. Do not make financial benefit your only priority. Do all within your reach to produce something little daily for it will amass into greatness you have always envisaged.

Be productive and do not be a consumer alone!

Cheers!
